About Flowercity Deathfest

Flower City Death Fest is a non-profit event themed around metal music. As we know, Bandung has an enormous number of creative communities, and one of the most prominent is the music community—from traditional music to contemporary forms. Bandung is one of the cities that serves as a barometer for musical development in Indonesia.

One music community whose enthusiasm rivals that of football fans, automotive enthusiasts, and fashion trends is the underground metal music community—particularly death metal fans. However, in recent years, a portion of this community’s creative process has entered the realm of corporate hegemony, and true regeneration— which should be guided by the community’s predecessors—has gradually found it harder to break through the walls of commercialization created by these corporations. There is concern that young people’s awareness of and love for more substantive local culture will continue to erode. This is why the event needs to be held—hopefully becoming a platform that facilitates expression and helps cultivate citizens of dignity.

Since the early emergence and development of this music community, it has generated various forms of revitalization of West Javanese cultural products—for example, popularizing the Iket Sunda, the Sundanese script, and even encouraging the use of the Sundanese language in daily life. It is hoped that after this event, such awareness will continue to grow.
